Guys: I recently purchased an 02 R6 and found out that the battery wasn't an OEM one. I changed that to the original spec and thought that that was the end of my problems. However, I was hit with the Rectifier bug that seems to be rampant in 99-02 R6s. I ordered one but the shop I ordered from gave me a different Rectifier. It still is an original Yamaha Part but it is a bit smaller than the original one. The original rectifier had a part number of SH650A-12 while the new one was SH5640D-12. When I called the shop, the owner who is pretty much well-knwon from where I come from and whom I trust said that the part is a newer one and that it actually regulates current better than the old part.

I installed the new rectifier and started the engine. The battery was charging properly, and everything seemed normal. I noticed however that there was heat being generated by the rectifier. I know that it is supposed to get hot but the rectifier was so hot that I couldn't touch it for more than a second. Is this normal?

I wasn't able to do this 'touch test' with the old rectifier and so I'm worried that it might be because the rectifier is a different one from the original and that using it might fry the harness and wires and possibly damage the stator. What do you guys think? Is this really how hot a rectifier should get and that I am just being paranoid? Thanks so much in advance for the replies and tips guys! Great site by the way!
